Descriptions
Introduction
to Vedic Chant
Basic orientation to
the principles and practice of Vedic Chant presented through recitation and
response, repetition of simple sounds, brief chants, and short excerpts from
longer passages. Appropriate for those new to Vedic Chant.
*Introductory
classes may be formed at different times in response to expressed interest.
A minimum of four students is required to form a new class.
The Art and Discipline of Vedic Chant
Level
One
Instruction
in the fundamental techniques of Vedic Chant focusing on the improvement of
listening and recitation skills, the pronunciation of Sanskrit words, and the
reading of transliteration.
PREREQUISITE: Minimum of eight Introductory classes or permission of instructor
Level
Two
Emphasis on further refinement of the principles and techniques as applied
to longer and more complex chants. Fundamentals of the Sanskrit language in
relationship to Vedic Chant will be introduced.
PREREQUISITE: Minimum of twelve Level One classes or permission of instructor
Chant
as Meditation
A series of workshops exploring how chant can be used to approach, develop,
and enhance meditation practice. Using Vedic themes, chanting with simple movement,
breathing, and seated gestures will be introduced to support an integrated meditative
experience. Taught
by Sonia Nelson
Private
Instruction
The benefits of chanting can be increased energy, reduced stress, and an
improved sense of physical, mental, and emotional well being. These private
classes are suggested to develop an individualized practice of Vedic Chant and/or
to refine techniques learned in group class. By appointment with Sonia Nelson.
